While there’s fragrant red fruit expression here, there’s also an earthy complexity to this wine. In the mouth, a juicy concentration of fruit is met with firm, dryness. It's a light wine, but there's depth and character. This is a blend of Syrah, Riesling and Pinot Noir. The Syrah is carbonic macerated, with the Riesling added. The Pinot Noir is partially footstomped, with both whole bunches and destemmed fruit added.  We enjoyed this served chilled.

Nick Drake recorded an ethereal studio album in 1970 called Bryterlater. Ethereal too are James Opie’s Bryterlater releases from North Canterbury. Sourcing organic fruit from vineyards around the region, James produces wines that respect the varied nature of each growing season, and that are produced, as James says, “with patience in the vineyard and patience in the winery.”
