Great Vineyards - Clos Henri 2 Pack

$78.00

Our Great Vineyard Packs showcase particular single vineyards that express individual brilliance.

The thoughtful folk at Clos Henri demonstrate just how important soil type is in the expression of a wine. These two Sauvignon Blanc come from very different soils on the same estate, nestled at the foothills of Marlborough’s Wairau Valley. Sauvignon Blanc is a distinctive variety, but it’s also a chameleon. It takes on the character of the place it’s grown. These two wines display their different soil types, and at the same time are unmistakably Marlborough…. in its most refined form.

Clos Henri Otira Sauvignon Blanc comes from vines grown on free draining glacial stones. It has aromatics of elder flower and ripe yellow fruits, with a beautiful mineral persistence.

Clos Henri Waimaunga Sauvignon Blanc comes from vines grown on dense wind-blown clay soils. There’s sweet, tropical notes to the aromatics. The palate is richer with more density than Otira.

Clos Henri was established in the foothills of Marlborough’s Wairau Valley in 2001, but this wine family’s story goes back 10 generations in France. We’ll pick up the story in the 1950’s, when Henri Bourgeois shifted his family's agricultural focus solely to winegrowing, and in particular to the terroir of Sancerre. This is where Sauvignon Blanc is very much at home in the Loire Valley. A couple of generations on and the family recognised how special Marlborough terroir is for the variety, and so Clos Henri was born. They gained full Biogro organic certification in 2013, and are guided by their ethos of creating ‘an oasis of life in Marlborough’.
